For many years, there has been speculation about the potential for colonizing Mars or the Moon. Futuristic depictions often suggest that domes may be the ideal solution for habitation.

But what if this idea isn't entirely original? What if someone—or something—has already acted on this concept? A recent image captured by the Opportunity rover on Mars presents a scenario that could challenge our current understanding of extraterrestrial life. This particular photo, taken with the rover’s panoramic camera, is accessible via NASA's website.

The image displays a semi-spherical object emerging from the top of a hill. Upon closer inspection, one might notice small dark circles along the base, which could suggest the presence of windows. This observation complicates the notion that the structure is merely a natural rock formation altered by the play of light and shadow.

The “dome” might simply be the crest of another hill hidden behind it. However, it remains to be explained what natural processes on Mars could create such a rounded structure, especially since it stands out from the surrounding landscape.

Approximately a year ago, the European Space Agency announced plans to establish lunar habitats using 3-D printing technology. Their proposal includes inflatable domes covered with lunar soil to provide protection against threats like meteorite impacts and radiation. Given the previous discussion, one might speculate that the dome in the aforementioned photo could be evidence of a visiting extraterrestrial race.

Regrettably, the quality of the image shared by NASA is not high, complicating efforts to analyze it thoroughly. In cases of surprising discoveries, returning to the site for a closer examination is often not feasible. This enigma has generated considerable interest and curiosity about the potential for life beyond Earth.
