Chapter 1: Understanding Procrastination
At times, it can feel like I’m leading two lives — one filled with mental distractions and the other consumed with physical tasks, both of which are experts in procrastination. My mind often seems to play a game of hide and seek with my productivity levels. There are moments when I find myself obsessively organizing my closet, even as pressing deadlines loom overhead.
This phenomenon can be categorized into two types:
- Mental Procrastination: This is that frustrating limbo where you contemplate completing tasks yet fail to take action.
- Physical Procrastination: Here, you master the art of crafting excuses to avoid diving into the actual work.
Sound familiar?
Section 1.1: Breaking Down Your Tasks
Instead of feeling overwhelmed by a mountain of responsibilities, consider breaking down your household chores into manageable 10-minute intervals. This is not about taking breaks, but rather about making quick, productive moves.
For instance, as a work-from-home mom balancing coaching and writing, I often find myself with brief windows of time. During these moments, I throw in a load of laundry, unload the dishwasher, or tackle a quick household chore. This approach alleviates the mental burden of thinking I have an endless list of chores waiting for me after work, which can feel overwhelming.
These 10-minute bursts can lead to surprising levels of productivity. You’ll be amazed at how much you can accomplish in such a short period.
Create a ‘10-Minute Can-Do List’ at the start of your week to maximize your time effectively. This method allows you to achieve success on multiple fronts — both in your professional and personal life. You’ll find that you have significantly reduced your mental and physical procrastination while also getting things done.
Section 1.2: Implementing the 10-Minute Strategy
Give this strategy a try and see how it works for you, whether you’re a work-from-home parent or someone managing household duties.
