Making Almond Milk: A Quick and Easy Approach
Did you know that many commercially available almond milks contain more than just almonds and water? As someone who is lactose intolerant, I can attest to the discomfort caused by dairy products. For me, consuming dairy results in significant discomfort and, let's just say, some unfortunate side effects.
When store-bought alternatives fail to satisfy, the ingredient lists often reveal a world of complications. Ever tried pronouncing "carrageenan" from those labels? Many almond milk brands include additives like emulsifiers and gums, which can lead to the same discomfort I experience with dairy.
Given these challenges, I decided to create my own almond milk.
Ingredients for Homemade Almond Milk:
- Dates
- Almond Butter
- Water
- Honey
It's as straightforward as it gets!
Recipe:
To begin, set up your blender. Take 2 to 3 pitted dates and add them to the blender. Next, incorporate approximately 1/4 cup of almond butter—organic is my preference, but any nut butter will suffice.
Pour in 2 cups of water, and for a creamier texture, feel free to add a couple of ice cubes. To enhance the sweetness, add a tablespoon of honey. Adjust the sweetness to your liking; it’s completely optional.
Now it’s time to blend until smooth!
This recipe is a breeze and can be completed in under 10 minutes. You can store your homemade almond milk and use it in various recipes.
The beauty of this basic recipe is its versatility! You can easily customize it by adding fruits like blueberries or strawberries, or by substituting almond butter with other nut butters like cashew or peanut. Your options are limitless!
