Chapter 1: A Commitment to Kindness

Throughout my life, I haven't always been kind to myself. I tended to place my own needs on the backburner, often giving them only a fleeting acknowledgment. However, the challenges faced over the past two years have taught me that life is not a straight line.

This year, although I don’t possess a concrete list of resolutions, I recognize the aspirations I carry over from the previous year. These aspirations have emerged from my personal battles with trauma and anxiety, which I prefer to call "curious anxiety." Despite the struggles, I remain eager to re-engage with the world each day, seeking ways to cultivate greater peace and happiness.

Section 1.1: The Importance of Rest

While this list of aspirations evolves daily, I don’t chastise myself for not always meeting them. Instead, I see them as guidelines to help me understand what truly brings me joy and how I can reward myself accordingly.

Ironically, I once prided myself on rising with the sun during summer. However, in winter, I find myself waking as late as 10 AM and struggling to fall asleep until 2 AM. In the past, this would have filled me with dread, leading me to believe that my irregular sleep patterns foretold personal failure.

Now, I recognize that this isn’t the case. The stillness of the night can inspire creativity, with 3 AM often revealing its own kind of magic. There’s no shame in discovering what works best for you; it’s essential to listen to your body’s cues about when to rest.

Section 1.2: Cultivating Mindfulness

One area I identified for improvement is my "intake/outtake ratio." In an age dominated by technology, it’s easy to become overwhelmed, numbing our deeper thoughts and feelings for fear of what might surface. This leads to a lack of intimacy with ourselves, stifling our creative instincts.

While the work of admired creators can be beautiful and motivating, an overload can lead to self-doubt. This is when we must pause and reflect on our own thoughts and feelings.

To counteract this, we must delve into our minds with curiosity. Acknowledging when we’ve consumed enough is vital. We've seen enough images and read enough texts; now, it’s time to explore what resonates within us.

Inviting stillness into our lives is one way to tap into these insights. Try spending a day without your phone, eliminating electronics from your bedroom, or taking a quiet walk with just a notebook to see what thoughts emerge.

Chapter 2: Creating a Beautiful Mosaic of Life

The first video titled "What on Earth Am I Here For?" with Pastor Rick Warren explores our purpose in life, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own journeys.

The second video, "Why Am I Here?" delves deeper into the quest for meaning, inviting us to confront our individual purposes.

In life, I find great value in weaving together the various experiences that shape who we are, creating a vivid mosaic. Ignoring our past can leave us unanchored, drifting away from our potential.

During our toughest times, we often yearn for better days, eagerly anticipating the moment when hardship subsides. We cannot entirely erase our past, but we can redefine its significance in our lives.

Through my photography, I've learned to transform burdensome experiences into sources of lightness and strength.

Chapter 3: The Resolution to Be Myself

Ultimately, my most significant resolution is this: regardless of where I find myself in life, I aspire to be as authentic as possible.

I would have never considered such a simple vow before, but I now understand that being oneself is a formidable yet rewarding journey. In a world that can often feel dark and heavy, embracing who we truly are is essential.

This endeavor isn’t about proving something to others; it’s about wholeheartedly engaging with life. It’s about embracing every moment—the good and the challenging—and affirming, “I am here for you, Life. I am ready to experience all of it.”
