Revamping My LinkedIn Strategy: A Journey Towards Authentic Engagement
Written on
Chapter 1: The Turning Point
In January 2023, I witnessed a remarkable surge in my LinkedIn followers, gaining 7,000 each month. Incredible, right? Or maybe not so much. I identified what truly worked for me and maximized it. I had a knack for crafting engaging content, and my profile reflected that growth. However, everything changed when I received a message from my Summit 21 student, Yashar Afarath. His analysis of my earliest LinkedIn posts was mind-blowing, culminating in a free ebook that he created.
Reflecting on my past approach, I realized that my earlier self, Niharikaa, lacked depth in my content. The turning point in 2023 was when I embraced a format that resonated with my audience: combining text with visuals. Yet, I found myself frustrated, as increased visibility did not necessarily translate to higher earnings. Instead, I craved a dedicated audience.
Personally, I’m not fond of generic photo posts unless they showcase stunning travel destinations or directly relate to my message. So, I decided to revisit my roots and adjusted my strategy accordingly. Here are some key changes I implemented along with my observations:
Section 1.1: Experimentation with Content
I began crafting text-only posts, which received fewer views but sparked more meaningful engagement. I also shared tweet snapshots accompanied by relevant text—these gained significant visibility, but engagement was lower. I wasn’t surprised; I didn’t expect many employees to engage with my anti-corporate sentiments.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Power of Variety
I embraced spontaneity in my approach, as I still don’t have a concrete LinkedIn strategy. My content format became less predictable, which led to interesting results.
Section 1.2: Positive Outcomes
After months of this new approach, I observed several positive developments:
Meaningful Engagement
I now receive insightful comments instead of generic compliments from strangers.
Purposeful Growth
The number of followers is less significant if they don’t engage with my content. I experienced slower growth, but it attracted the right audience.
Increased Comments
Some posts with fewer likes garnered more comments, indicating genuine interest.
Consistent Interaction
Seeing the same individuals frequently comment signifies that I’ve cultivated a loyal audience.
Enhanced Skills
Experimenting with content has challenged me to improve my writing craft—focusing on quality over instant gratification.
Stronger Brand Identity
I’ve steered clear of cringe-worthy posts that stray from my values, even if it means fewer likes. I’m committed to aligning my brand with my personal ethics, disregarding vanity metrics.
