The Unique Bond Between Kitty-Cats and COPD Management

Written on

Chapter 1: Morning Rituals with Ms. Piggy

This morning, my beloved kitty, Ms. Piggy, affectionately known as SweetPea, made her presence known by meowing and leaping onto the end of my bed in the family room. It was her way of indicating that she wanted breakfast there today, and I was more than happy to comply.

These little furballs have me completely under their spell; they consistently find ways to persuade me to cater to their whims. After a short while, I settled in with her while she nibbled on her food and eventually drifted off for a nap.

Shortly after, it was time for my daily nebulizer treatment, a necessity for managing my Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). I wasn't aware of my condition until an alarming incident in October 2021 when I suddenly struggled to breathe. The experience was terrifying—I vividly recall dialing 911 and hurriedly throwing on some clothes, all while trying to stay calm.

The emergency responders arrived quickly and, thanks to their swift actions, I made it to the hospital where my oxygen levels had plummeted to a critical 50. I must have fainted at some point, as I woke up to find myself hooked up to various tubes and wires, feeling like a machine in a cold hospital room.

In my disoriented state, I reached for my purse, attempting to contact Ron, but without my glasses, my messages were a jumbled mess. I finally managed to get the word "hospital" out, and he understood. It wasn't long before he was by my side, though I had been there for two hours without anyone notifying my emergency contacts.

I ended up spending five days in the hospital and returned home with my trusty nebulizer.

Chapter 2: The Adventures of Ms. Piggy and Buddy

This morning, after leaving Ms. Piggy snoozing on the bed, I went to the other room for my breathing therapy. Buddy, my other fur baby, was nestled on the loveseat nearby.

After about twenty minutes, I returned to find that Ms. Piggy was no longer on the bed. Most likely, she had scampered upstairs to her safe space; she's notoriously skittish and frightens easily. Not just from loud noises, but from any unexpected sound—whether it’s a sneeze from me or the rustle of a chip bag, she bolts away in an instant. This is why I jokingly refer to her as my "ghost kitty."

If it weren’t for my Ring cameras capturing her movements, I might sound a bit eccentric. She is indeed real, and a truly unique character.

When I finally made my way to the back of the room, I couldn't help but laugh at what I discovered—a heap of blankets covering something on the bed. Grabbing my phone, I snapped a few pictures of Ms. Piggy’s clever little act of hiding her food plate. She had meticulously covered it up to enjoy later, and I was impressed that she hadn’t spilled a thing.

It’s instinctual for cats to conceal their food, but with just her and Buddy at home, one can’t help but wonder if there really is a ghost kitty lurking about.

The second video features the hilarious antics of a talking kitty, providing a comical glimpse into the lives of our feline friends and their quirky behaviors.
