Channeling the Hermit: Insights from a Relatable Archetype

The Hermit Archetype in Today's World
Having navigated two years of a pandemic while juggling pregnancy, caring for a newborn, and managing a growing toddler, I have become quite acquainted with the Hermit archetype.
As a family, we embraced this role, albeit not with the joy one might expect from acting in a play. We limited our interactions, avoiding gatherings unless they were outdoors, and we maintained distance, especially in the initial year. With masks on and a commitment to moving forward—albeit at a snail's pace—we endeavored to stay safe from the illness that shall remain nameless.
Reflecting on your own experiences, do you find yourself embodying your inner hermit as well? Have you ever chosen to retreat from social activities, seeking comfort in your own space?
Though I have discussed this card in the context of my pandemic experience and the impacts of isolation, the Hermit’s message is fundamentally uplifting.
The Galaxy Tarot app describes The Hermit as a symbol of:
- solitude
- introspection
- perspective
- wisdom
- guidance
Here are some key insights, summarized for clarity:
"The Hermit suggests a need or desire to withdraw from the world. He embodies wisdom gained through profound reflection and meditation."
"When this card appears, it may indicate your soul's yearning for a retreat... By embracing solitude now, you’ll be better equipped to support and guide others when they require your assistance later."
"The answers you seek lie within you, not in external sources."
The vital lessons imparted by The Hermit include the notion of retreating to recharge our energies, preparing us to re-engage with society and assist those in need. With the abundance of uncertainties we face today, this serves as a reminder that at times, isolating oneself may be essential for personal preparation.
The concept that the solutions you seek are already within you is incredibly empowering. You don’t need to search externally for answers; you possess the wisdom and resilience required to navigate life's challenges. While seeking support or guidance can be valuable, The Hermit encourages us to trust in our inner resources and wisdom.
Our intuition is a constant guide—if only we would take the time to listen.
